Game 1 of the 2006 World Series is set to begin today and the Detroit Tigers are eager to go.  The Tigers have been off for a week since they swept the A's to win the ALCS and have the right to play in the Fall Classic.  It took the St. Louis Cardinals all 7 games in the NLCS to get by the Mets.  The Cardinals didn't have much time to rest since they advanced on Thursday, so the Tigers would definitely have the advantage of being well rested.

It should be an interesting matchup.  Game time is slated for 7:30 at Comerica Park in Detroit.  Two rookies will start in the opener this evening.  The Tigers will send Justin Verlander to the mound and he will be opposed by the Cardinals Anthony Reyes.
