Feb. 19th, 2011 01:16 pmI just noticed this after reading a very LONG (too long to be precise)chapter of a story I've been following. Everyone should know that whenever a character speaks, some sort of punctuation mark must come at the end of their speech before you add that closing quotation mark. This all depends on the structure of how you have the character talking.
The story I mentioned doesn't follow that. If the speech is more than one sentence, it's that final sentence that doesn't end with some kind of punctuation mark. It's not that difficult a fix and it should really be done when you are writing so a beta would not have to do it for you. Also, a beta would help to catch that mistake so you can not repeat it.
An error like this should not really happen because there is no real reason behind it.
